CRAZY ABOUT COLOR

It can be really tempting to only wear black. Head to toe, full on Johnny Cash black. Black is easy, you can find any piece of clothing in black, it’s slimming (allegedly) and is basically a blank canvas for jewelry, bags, and shoes. I have plenty of it in my closet and it’s certainly a foundation of my wardrobe. But I try to never let myself all into the trap of looking like I’m in mourning all day, every day, because your girl loves some color. I can remember being very little and loving anything that was bright and sparkly. Take one look at my Instagram (I’m @jenlyn83, let’s follow each other!) and you’ll see what I mean.

My jewelry is available here.

I’d say nowadays I’m pretty brave and confident when it comes to color. But it’s a choice to wear color and print. And not the easier choice. It would be easier to hide out in all black. But that would be like dimming my own light, and I don’t want to do that. So most days, I choose to embrace color, pattern, texture and all the things that can make getting dressed so much fun, no matter your size. These pants? They’re loud and bright, but I just couldn’t leave them behind! Turns out, I got so many compliments on them. Not one person said, “Hey, maybe you should consider wearing plain, boring pants because of your size.” And yet, that’s a real insecurity I have at times when buying colorful clothes. If you love these pants (duh) you can find them at your nearest Cato Fashion or grab them online here

One thing I’ve learned for sure is that when you like what you’re wearing, it improves your mood. And when your mood is improved, you’re nicer to people and nicer to yourself. I think the world could use a whole lot more of that, right? Black has a prominent place in my wardrobe, but I love adding color wherever I can because it makes me happy. And happiness, my friends, never goes out of style.

When it comes to color, where do you stand? Are you wearing more colors than a pack of Skittles or keeping it as black as your coffee? Whatever your preference, I hope you’re embracing your personal style and dressing in a way that makes your heart sing. Until next time, wishing you all the best!
