SPANX PLUS SIZE FAUX LEATHER LEGGINGS REVIEW: SIZING, TIPS, STYLING

Hello, friends! I hope you’re doing well and having a great summer. It’s kind of hard to believe, but the time has come when retail shifts seasons and fall fashion starts to make its way into stores. One of the most beloved and popular fall staples talked about on social media are Spanx faux leather leggings. July is also one of the few times they go on sale! Spanx faux leather leggings are a bit pricey, but they always get marked down during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale and then Spanx.com price matches during that time as well. If you’ve never tried them but always wanted to, this is one of the best times to do it.

I was lucky enough to partner with Spanx for some Instagram content last fall and will be doing the same thing this fall. One of the reasons I love doing this is because so many plus size ladies often have questions about the fit of the faux leather leggings, especially if they are on the higher end of plus. And that’s where I come in! On average, I wear anywhere from 24 to 26 to 28 or a 3X/4X. It really just depends on the brand, the cut of the item, etc.

Spanx faux leather leggings (that’s a mouthful) stop at a size 3X. And if you read reviews on them, most people will say you should size up. So if you’re a 3X, what do you do? Well, that depends on how you feel about the fit. They are not meant to be buttery soft, stretchy leggings. They have the same shapewear technology of regular Spanx you’d wear under a dress. That means they suck everything in. They compress. If you’re just looking for a soft, loosey goosey legging to lounge around the house in, that’s not what these are. And if you are a woman who wears a 3X, you actually CAN wear the 3X leggings. Sizing up for someone who is a 2X gives them a looser fit, but it absolutely doesn’t mean you can’t wear them if you are a true 3X!

I’ve heard a lot of people say they can’t get them up over their legs, but instead of thinking of them like a pair of pants, think of them like pantyhose. They are of course far more durable than pantyhose, but think about what a pair of pantyhose looks like before it goes on your bod. Tiny, right? And somehow, as you work them up your legs, and then pull them up over your hips, that tiny looking scrap of delicate fabric is covering your entire lower half. It’s the same concept with the leggings. PRO TIP: Sit down to put them on, then start working them up your leg. Give yourself a few minutes to get them on so you don’t get frustrated!

Last fall I made an entire YouTube video dedicated to styling Spanx faux leather leggings! You can check it out here for more of my thoughts on the fit and see some outfit ideas.

In addition to the classic faux leather leggings, they also have a camo print and a moto style! Just click on this image if you want to shop the leggings. (affiliate link)

In the look below, I’m actually wearing head to toe Spanx with the exception of my shoes and hat. My leggings, jacket, and top are all from Spanx! This is proof positive you can wear several things from the Spanx line whether you’re a size 12 or 26. Now, does every single thing fit me? No. But that’s true of a lot of brands and retailers. Every brand is going to fit each person’s body differently. But until I tried the clothes and experimented with them, I never knew how much I would enjoy them. It was a great reminder to get out of my comfort zone and stop assuming something won’t work for me unless I actually try it for myself.

Here are a couple of outfit ideas to get you thinking about how you might make Spanx leggings work in your wardrobe! If you see anything you like, you can also click on the images to shop them. (affiliate links)
